About âLove & Decibelsâ
A unique newsletter from Jo Huber, musician at Synthie dB Shock and iceEchoes.
âLove & Decibelsâ is full of tips, tricks and musings for artists whose creative Mojo has disappeared on them. Itâs based on my own creative recovery - a personal rollercoaster that went on for over 2 decades, but led to an amazing transformation!
Weâll go on a really cool journey together, collecting simple but powerful insights to get your energy, inner peace and creative flow back. Iâll keep you entertained with my music, my creative writing, and much more!
Iâm Jo, an experimental writer and musician in two different bands, making synthpop music and experimental music. Iâm from Sydney, Australia, somehow landing in Switzerland in the year 2000 and getting stuck there until the end of 2023! Right now Iâm a nomad artist, in transit as we speak.
I constantly find myself swaying between music and writing. My love for both doesnât make things easy in terms of being in two places at once. I know that many others do this very well; I donât and Iâm still exploring ways to balance my time between the two.
The 80s was my favourite decade for music and innovation and my own music has a few retro elements snuck into it, although I find it fits into multiple genres, really. Iâll be sharing my music with all my subscribers, although my paid subscribers are usually the first to be notified of any new releases and are treated to extra, behind-the-scenes content.
When our creative Mojo does a runner, we often feel like weâve failed as artists, worrying about how much time has gone by, what used to be, or what the future will bring. This tends to create anxiety, insecurity, fear and disappointment. Iâve been there and itâs not worth the pain. Itâs better to use our precious time on this planet to get in touch with ourselves and what we want to experience in life. Weâre on a mission to get your creativity to come back, right? Thatâs whatâs important for us artists!
Many people believe that they are not creative, which i donât believe is true. Everything in this world has been created by a higher type of intelligence and so we are all creations ourselves. As creations, we are also creative beings, so this must be our true nature; might as well run with it! When we ignore it, it feels like weâre out of our skin, like somethingâs missing and we just canât put our finger on what it could be. We become restless and unhappy.
All creative people i know are happiest when they get to create and most miserable when they donât. Iâd ignored my creativity for such a long time, that i actually became completely blocked - emotionally, physically, mentally and, of course, creatively! If this resonates with you, then youâre in the right place. I do my best here to offer you some unique insights that you wonât get anywhere else, because they are the product of a combination of my own experiences and all the training iâve done to get me where i am today. I was helped in a massive way by some amazing people and i want to help you as well, so you can smash those creative blocks and free your inner artist.
Something a lot of people donât realise, is that creativity is a spiritual journey. Before you freak out, just hear me out: i didnât say âreligiousâ; i said âspiritualâ. It doesnât matter what you believe in, as long as you believe in a bigger power out there. This is actually key in recovering your creativity. My suggestion is that you remain open-minded, patient and just allow yourself to enjoy the ride. It is completely safe, without doctrines, and it will all make sense down the track!
I trust that youâll enjoy this collection of weekly Love Letters from me to you.
Letâs smash those creative blocks together and unleash your inner artist! Are you in? đ
